John Foker, MD, Ph.D.
Founder & Director

Dr. John Foker is a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon and Kastor professor of surgery in the Department of Surgery and Pediatrics, University of Minnesota.  Foker received his undergraduate and MD degrees at Harvard University before completing a Ph.D. in microbiology and biochemistry at the University of Minnesota.  He has authored more than 150 scientific papers and remains active in cardiovascular research.

Foker is a pioneer in cardiovascular metabolic research and, through this research, discovered the technology upon which Bioenergy is founded.  His work established the temporal relationship between cardiovascular energy and diastolic heart function, and determined that a little researched metabolic pathway held the key to both energy recovery and functional improvement in ischemic hearts.

Thomas VonderBrink
President & Chief Operating Officer
Bioenergy Life Science, Inc.

Tom VonderBrink joined Bioenergy in January 2000 and became president and chief operating officer of its Bioenergy Life Science subsidiary in 2003.  VonderBrink is responsible for managing Bioenergy Life Science operations, focused on general and clinical nutrition.

VonderBrink has vast experience in clinical nutrition product development, sales, marketing and operations management.  Before joining Bioenergy, he spent 25 years with Novartis Corporation (formerly Sandoz, Inc.) where he began his career as sales representative in 1974 before evolving through increasingly responsible management positions.  His most recent role at Novartis was general manager responsible for senior care, health systems and trade market segments where he managed more than $800 million in contracted sales.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in psychology from Thomas Moore College in Fort Mitchell, KY, VonderBrink went on to earn a master’s degree in counseling and guidance from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH.
